Crossing borders and breaking the language barrier, Azonto is a dance craze that captivated the world. Originating in Ghana, Azonto is simple enough that even the most uncoordinated person can learn it. Just bend your knees, twist your foot, and add your own movement, pretend you are driving, typing, or washing the dishes…and you're dancing Azonto.
Azonto was first called ‘Apaa’, which means ‘work’. People would take their everyday activities and turn them into dance moves, the trend took to the streets and high schools, moving into nightclubs and pubs, and eventually popularized by Ghanaian rappers Fuse ODG and Tiffany. From Ghana to the rest of Africa, North America, and the United Kingdom, Azonto fever spread like wildfire with a flame that has not burnt out.
