Bring on the Sunshine

Bring on the Sunshine (BOTS) is a family day festival that hosts an audience of about a thousand each year and looks forward to seeing continual growth. The schedule on the day includes a full musical stage line up, a market place with diverse and artisan items, and workshops such as drumming and dance. Each year there is a unique auction showcasing some of the artistic talent of Africa. The event also introduces it’s audience to delicious African cuisine, which are favorites in the African community. BOTS operates entirely from grants, donations and support from the community giving BOTS a dedicated volunteer pool to work with.

Testimonials

In 2011 I was invited to a Cultural event called Bring on the Sunshine in Kitchener Waterloo. I didnt know what to expect and took my then 7 year old daughter along for a Family Day outing. I had no clue the impact this would have on my daughter. She was captivated by the art, music and images of her culture that she doesnt see much in her daily life. She left the event with a sense of pride and a greater awareness of her possibilities as a young women of color.

We attend this event yearly now and it has become our Black History month tradition. The things my daughter has learned about her culture as a result of both Bring on the Sunshine and Africa Camp has effected even her school work, and as a result she has won an award for her essay writing highlighting the event and its importance to her and for her community.

Bring on the Sunshine is a grass roots event that our community feels proud ,it highlights the best and the brightest of who we are as a community and invites everyone of all cultures to come and celebrate.

“What a great ‘Family Day’ event where the community gets together to celebrate such a rich culture. We never miss this event and find that it gets better and better every year. It is amazing to see people of every nation come an rejoice in an African way. From the youngest to the oldest, everyone can be stimulated by the constant uproar of performances, music, traditional attires, delicious food, activities and vendors galore. Keep up the great work team. We can’t wait to see what the next event has to offer.”
